My name is Scott Riegel. I have been a Jones Beach Lifeguard since 1978. Jones Beach is the largest state park on the east coast and is world renowned for its beautiful beaches, which were started by the famous Robert Moses.

Because of the shortage of lifeguards, I started the Junior Lifeguard Program four years ago. The first year we started with twenty children and have grown each year with this past year having over 150 children. This program has taken off and has become a stepping stone for the real test when the children reach seventeen. The program now starts at nine years old and goes until sixteen years old.

My reason for telling you about this program is to drum up some sponsorship or help to defray the cost to the parents. Besides all of the lifeguards helping out, we give the children a hat, shirt, sweatshirt and shorts with the Jones Beach logo on it. In the past we have also added logos from our sponsors, which is a great way to put your name in front of the thousands of people visiting Jones Beach.
